FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION
Follicular Unit Extraction and Implantation is the "No-Scalpel, No Suture" technique is the preferred procedure performed at Melbourne Hair Transplant. This procedure involves meticulous one-by-one removal of healthy hairs (follicular units) from the back of the scalp (donor area), followed by implantation into the balding areas. It is a permanent, minimally invasive, effective procedure which avoids any need for scalpels, IV sedation or strong painkillers.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a stimulator of hair growth; it decreases hair loss and increases hair volume and strength. The procedure involves taking a small amount of blood from the patient, spinning it in a centrefuge to separate the platelets and plasma from red and white blood cells. The main benefit of PRP is in its ability to reawaken or reinvigorate miniaturized hairs on the scalp, that have been damaged by long term DHT exposure. It is also extremely useful in the preservation and enhancement of hair follicle viability during and after hair transplantation.
There are many products on the market that claim to promote healthy hair, reduce hair loss, or speed the post-surgical recovery course, including Propecia, Avodart, Rogaine, and Nizoral shampoo. All of these products have been shown to reduce hair loss in many patients, though not all; a small percentage will even see hair re-growth.
